Hi all,

My husband (US citizen) and I (French citizen) are planning a move to the US due to his job, and I’ll need to apply for a green card. We’re hoping to pursue Direct Consular Filing (DCF) via the US embassy in Stockholm (where we both live) to speed things up.

Our situation:

  • My husband has a new role within his existing company that requires relocation to the US.

  • His employer is relatively flexible but expects us to relocate within 6 months.

  • We’re trying to understand if this kind of timeline (i.e. a required move within ~6 months) is considered urgent enough for DCF to be accepted.

Has anyone had success getting DCF approved from Sweden or elsewhere under similar circumstances? If so:

  • How long was the relocation window in your case?

  • Did the embassy require very short notice (e.g. 2–3 months), or was ~6 months sufficient?

  • Any tips on how the employer’s offer letter or contract should be worded to make the urgency clear and meet DCF standards?

Would appreciate any advice or examples!

Thanks in advance.

It is subjective but 6 months compared to 18 months plus would seem to quailfy

DCF seems to take around 3 months so I would use that as my timeline, of course like anything in life things can change
