Possibly moving to LA

I wont be buying a house when we first move out there, so we will just rent at first. Looking into the housing though is kind of scary, and after dealing with the M25 around London for a couple of years I am kind of upset to go back to it. Might have to speak to HP and see if I can work from a different office, they seem keen to get me so maybe I can go to somewhere in OC.

If you are going to start out renting West Hollywood and environs is pretty reasonable (for a big city) and WeHo has rent control. Monthly rent in the area is way cheaper than a monthly mortgage (and it would probably be worth waiting to buy anyway - prices are going down).

Weho is much cooler than the OC. And more cityfied.

re Animal fries: don't knock it till you try it! They are (to use the local lingo) hella good.

For their ordinary fries I order 'em well done - much crispier mmmmmm

And for those of you who don't do carbs, they'll just wrap your burger in a big ole' lettuce leaf. Yum!

But back to LA: I think the deciding factor will be your income. Check out some online real estate searches and take a look around the areas you are into (steering clear of Pico of course! Wooo! But I'll make an exception for Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles). And ask 'em whether there is a possibility of work in the Bay Area or San Diego :)

I watched him play 20 mins on espn last week and I watched the match against Chelsea, it was funny listening to these commentators almost foaming at the mouth over beckham (and Beckham cam(, but my highlight has to be when they interviewed Jennifer Love Hewitt for her match analysis. I almost died laughing. In Kansas City they have a billboard over the free way that says "the British Invasion" and on about when the LA Galaxy play the Kansas City Wizards in September.

Beside that I am all for anything that makes proper football more popular over here.

I agree, but I suspect that he might actually have an impact. There are at least 10 people in my office that want to go and watch the Kansas City wizards vs the LA Galaxy match. At around 8 of them have never been to a football match. I also remember hearing that USA has the largest amount of registered youth players of any country in the world, they just all lose interest when they get to high school.

Anyway back onto LA my wife and I have agreed to go and visit at the end of October to look at certain areas and look at houses so I would like that that everyone for all there help.

I recently got a job offer to move to LA, the money is considerably better, however I have never fancied moving to LA. I currently stay in Kansas City which I quite like as it has all the stuff you expect of a large city, but with a small town feel.

However my impression of LA is that it is a bit fake and all about the glam and Hollywood. I know this could be completely false so I want to know from some of my fellow immigrants (or USC) who have moved to LA what is it like. I do like the idea of being close to the seaside and all year round good weather.

My questions are:

1.What is LA or the surrounding area like for bringing up children. I dont want this move to negatively impact on my son.

2. What is the traffic like, especially around rush hour. If anyone if from the UK and can make a comparison with the traffic there that would be appreciated.

3. What are nice areas for houses and/or condos

I am sure I will have more questions, but these are the ones at the forefront of my mind. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going from Kansas City to LA make sure you get your salary doubled or tripled because you're going to need it if you plan to buy a house or condo. Check real estate prices before you commit to this job! I had some friends living there but don't know anyone there anymore as they all MOVED OUT!

Yes, getting used to renting is a good idea since you will probably NEVER able to buy.

i have heard some whippersnappers(9 yr olds) up here in northern cal use a version it: hecka.

in any case LA is very diverse in all things. lingo being one. but it really isn't much.
