I know that it is early and there are several rep candidates that have yet to announce but the latest Gallup poll has Giuliani beating Clinton 49% to 46%. I wouldn't say the Clinton has a lock on anything yet.

Let me add that I am not a strong Giuliani fan. I would prefer Thompson or Newt for president. But anyone would be better than Clinton.

Newt would be a very interesting candidate. Now there is a truly smart man. A tad unhinged, but smart.

ps. ok, more than just a "tad", LOL.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I'm convinced too that she will win.

Guiliani alienates the Republican base. If he is the nominee, I can't imagine a protest candidate won't emerge Pat Buchanan-style.

McCains campaign is already imploding - the base never loved him.

I kinda see Mitt Romney as the perfect Republican candidate - if he wasn't a Mormon and the base thinks he a filpflopper on abortion. That will be a problem for him, unfortunately, because I kinda like Romney in spite of his socially conservative view points. What he has done in his political and professional life, he has done well.

If Hillary has any politcal instinct (which she does) she will pick Obama as her running mate. I think they will be unstoppable.

If she does, I can't wait to watch the election night coverage - certain people's heads are going to explode on national television.

I was just looking at some of the poll numbers. I find it interesting that Clinton looks like she is going to be the dem nominee but most polls have her loosing or tied with the major rep candidates. But Oboma looks like he would beat any of the rep candidates. It will be interesting. Check out this story from Rasmussen.

Looks like if she is the Dem candidate the rep candidate has a real shot at it.

No, I don't think they would be unstoppable. Obama is continuously sticking his foot in his mouth. He would drag her right down to the gutter. The closer we get to the election the more Oboma will show how little he is ready for the job.

Three reasons why I think Clinton-Obama would be unstoppable against the current Republican field

1. Young people who in the last 2 elections stayed away in droves would be energized, especially young women

2. The black vote would be locked up. You can't discount how blacks helped Bush in the last election, however small it may have been in a narrow victory

3. The hispanic vote is, I think, a dead cert. Bush got significant help from them in the last 2 elections

I would also add that the same people who thought John Kerry windsurfing was so hysterical are probably not going to embrace a guy who smooched Donald Trump wearing a dress on Saturday Night Live

The nuclear deterrent has been bollocks for years and everyone knows it - whether the politicians admit it or not. No government has the guts to up the ante like that.

That would change if NYC or Washington DC disapeared under a mushroom cloud. Never take it off of the table no matter how remote the chance of using them are.

Making a general statement doesn't amount to taking it 'off the table', especially in the event you described. I hardly think people will go "hypocrite, you said you wouldn't do it".

As it stands, everyone knows that short of a massive deterioration of some kind - noone is going to take that route.

If "public eye" is the extreme left, then yes. You're right.

Not JUST extreme left...

June 27 -- A new poll in New Hampshire has Al Gore leading the entire Democratic field in the nation's first primary, with a six point lead over Hillary Clinton, 32 to 26. "Gore is the only Democrat, including Hillary, who can instantly melt the field," said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center."

....

The far right salivated when Dubbya first ran and he's certainly not the poster child of a true Conservative.
