K1 Interview at Mumbai

Hi all,

My fiance just had her K1 interview on July 31. All paperwork seems fine. But still she didn't get visa. Embassy officer had only one concern that is "why we didn't get married instead of getting engaged?". My fiance told him that we didn't want to rush and we didn't have enough time. However, embassy officer said that there was more that enough time since I stayed in India for more than 4 weeks (Dec 24 2006 to Jan 28 2007). They have asked her to submit proof of our ongoing relationship such as telephone records, e-mails and pics at Ahmedabad VFS office. My fiance had those proof with her at that time and she even offered it to embassy officer but they didn't take it. I don't know what's processing will be after that.

So, should I be worried? Although she is not issued visa, she is not denied either. It does not seem she is issued 221G or a rejection letter.

I have asked my fiance to submit those proof to Ahmedabad VFS asap.

FYI, My finance's parents live in Texas and I live in NJ. There is only 2 yr age diff, and every thing seems fine in terms of race, religion and other factors.

All your comment and help will be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunate that she was not given the visa after the interview. She didn't happen to show any pictures where it looked like a wedding may have taken place, rather than just an engagement?

Best you can do is ask her to submit copies of the proof (highlight the relevant parts of the proof) and submit them ASAP. Are you sure they gave her no 221G letter or any other statement? You can also try to email the embassy to ask for clarification on where the case has been left off.

Correction:

My fiance is issued 221G. Here's what it says:

You are requested to submit following documents-

Additional proof of relationship, including but not limited to

- Itemized phone bill

- emails

- Postmarked letters or cards list of 30 wedding guest, their relationship to you, their addresses and phone numbers. Please do not inclue immediate relatives

- A list of vendors and their contact information from your engagement

- Notarized passport copies showing petitioner's travel to India

It's really ridiculous, all that they ask. We didn't even have an engagement ceremony (just the two of us!) and the Consulate did not ask anything about it. If they want to pick on a couple needlessly, they will just ask for all those things like list of vendors and 30 wedding guests. Oh brother! :protest:

OK enough of my rant. Yes, just have her send what they want ASAP, we have heard of other cases and after what they want is submitted, often they give the visa approval. Did you mention that because her parents are in TX, a wedding in USA is more convenient?

Good luck to both of you!

Why would they ask for a wedding guest list if you are K-1? Is that a typo or trick question?

Yaaaahooooo, my fiance just received visa in mail. She was issued 221G on July 31. She submitted paperwork to VFS Ahmedabad on August 10 and she got visa on August 20. Not bad after all. I guess all is well if it ends in well. I am thankful to God that she got visa. You guys have no idea but 221G gave me, my fiance and our family so many sleep less nights. Thanks to all those who took time to reply my post.

So, to all those who have filed K1 in India, be prepared to answer the question WHY YOU DIDN'T MARRY INSTEAD OF GETTING ENGAGEMENT? Please don't say there was not enough time. Please don't say we need more time to get to know each other. In my opinion, following answer seems more suitable:

all my fiance's relatives live in US and they all desired that our wedding take place in US so that they can attend wedding. Wish you good luck to all of you.
