Are you sure you've spelled it correctly? If yes, it means some sweet way of calling a female friend, basically, a female friend. Also, are you sure it's a noun?

I only had the word out of context in the beginning of a letter. Such as "Привет, подружайка"

I'm not a native speaker, but it looks a diminuitive of girlfriend. ( подружка would make more sense to me though)

So it would mean small girlfriend.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep, female friend, one of the forms of addressing to a friend. Like, "Hi, girl!" or "Hi, pal!"

You can mix or add endings to Russian words to make them unique to your situation. More familiar, less familiar, more endearing, more important, and they don't have to be correct... just have to make sense! (In an incorrect way!)

Anything with a "ka" ending tends to be a diminuitive. Russians use these a lot. My sister's name "Bethany" has morphed into "Bethka," probably because it declines more easily.

Names ending in "a" are easier to deal with in Russian grammar.
