The required police certificate from Germany is detailed here -- https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Germany.html

Document Name: Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis; Strafregisterbescheinigung or Auszug aus dem Strafregister (extract from criminal record registration)

Issuing Authority: Bundesamt für Justiz (Federal Office of Justice)

How did you apply for the Irish one (I need one too) and how long did it take to get it through?

Hi, Irish one was really easy. I posted the application/request to my local HQ, which was Naas. For the attention of the superintendent. It took about a week. They did email me and request a copy of birth cert so that added some time. I received a email copy and then in the post a few days later. https://www.garda.ie/en/about-us/online-services/data-protection-foi-police-certificates/police-certificates.html
