NancyB,

It sounds like you are rushing into this to save on the fee increase. If you are serious about this, then take your time. You've already said that you had one mistake in marriage, so slow down. The increase in fees is not a reason to rush such a decision.

You want to be sure about everything as does he. Go meet him, spend a lot of time together and see what happens when the two of you are together alone. You can get lots of pictures of the two of you together, get plenty of documentation of your trip and get everything necessary to file for a K-1 visa.

You will also give yourself time to secure a better job and thereby show the ability to support both of you. This is a really important decision and you shouldn't jump into it without some caution.

Let your heart guide you, but allow the head to make decisions.

Good luck.

There are a couple conflicting schools of thought on this. With the petition you only need to prove you met in the past 2 years, that you are both free to marry and that you are a USC.

I don't understand the need some have to offer relationship advice to those who don't ask for it. We're all adults here and if we're not, we have other adults to preach to us that actually know us and our circumstances.

Wow! a damn genius on board!! LOL!!! Thanks, I needed information about the forms you are correct not marriage counseling.

Classic statement and I agree 100% I don't understand the need some have to offer relationship advice to those who don't ask for it. We're all adults here and if we're not, we have other adults to preach to us that actually know us and our circumstances.

I just wanted to make sure I could send the forms in. I don't care about deadlines or anything, just wanted to send the forms in.

Thanks for the advice. However, now I have a question. Do I send the photos, emails over the years etc now or just wait until the interview? in actuality I don't want to share my emails, but I can share a photo or two that's more reasonable. Please anyone who has experience this K-1, please tell me what is best to prove real relationship is to INS? what basic items did you send? It sounds simple on paper but really what worked for you?

Are you a minimalist or do you wear belt and suspenders? I actually like the idea, particularly in your case of doing a bit more than the minimum without going overboard. I would provide a brief evolution of relationship statement in your letter of intent to marry, and then a few evidences of communication that show your relationship is longer than it would appear if you only supplied primary evidence of meeting in person. This isn't actually needed for USCIS but kind of cuts off at the pass, any Consular officer who might form the wrong impression before the interview.

It is physically impossible to meet for the first time on July 30, 2007 and beat the fee increase deadline. However, it is absolutely possible to mail the petition July 31st. You would probably find yourself occupied organizing papers instead of enjoying yourself but the decision is yours.

I would take the earlier advice and take a picture in front of a landmark holding a dated English language paper. A popular thing for couples in China is to take the picture in front of the money exchange board in a Bank of China branch. The board makes it easy to see the time, date and place. The primary evidence will be your passport stamps but you'll want to include boarding passes and other travel receipts. Pictures with family are nice but not primary evidence.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous
