Secondary schools will strip back the traditional curriculum in favour of lessons on debt management, the environment and healthy eating, ministers revealed.

Even Winston Churchill no longer merits a mention after a drastic slimming-down of the syllabus to create more space for "modern" issues.

Along with Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin and Martin Luther King, the former prime minister has been dropped from a list of key figures to be mentioned in history teaching.

Schools are also being told to tear up the timetable of eight lessons a day and introduce classes lasting a few minutes - or several hours - by mixing different subjects together.

Five-minute lessons on spelling, French or German could be "drip-fed" throughout the day.

How ridiculous to take out Hitler, Churchill, Ghandi or MLK. We need to know and continue to teach what Hitler did to prevent it from happening again...though we actually have allowed genocide to take place in Bosnia and in Darfur (oh, wait, I'm sorry, a commission formed to investigate that decided it wasn't genocide). And what purpose is served by not teaching about the other men?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to introduce more modern subjects, but when we start neglecting important aspects of history...especially the 20th century... we just do those kids a total disservice.

I think the above cirricula is questionable also. 'Science will teach more on the moral and ethical implication of science'? Sounds to me the morals of the teacher, or better yet the government, will decide for our children what is moral and ethical. Scarey............................

Gandhi was vegetarian (but not vegan) after his short time during late teens(due to the taunts of some older boys, friends of his brothers) of eating goat/lamb curry.

of course this makes perfect sense - the holocaust was so long ago now that it doesnt really matter that kids dont know about it, and MLK and Churchill were only a couple of guys who did a few good things years ago. Yes I agree lets forget everything and teach our kids healthy eating instead. After all, it will take 6 years of education to work out that 4 donuts a day will increase your weight.
