Hello All,

I know nothing about Canadian Immigration Policy. A friend of ours,(from Nigeria) has met a woman online, and she is in Canada. She told him that she wanted to send him a Letter of Invitation so he could come for a visit. He asked us today if that was a possibility and I have NO IDEA what to tell him. Can someone enlighten me on this subject??

Since he's a citizen of Nigeria, he'll have to apply for a visa. There's more information here:

2007-06-05: AOS interview letter date

2007-06-13: AOS interview letter received in mail

2007-07-03: EAD card production ordered

2007-07-07: EAD card received! (yay!)

2007-08-23: AOS interview (Documents / Interview review)

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!

2007-08-24: Welcome notice mailed!

2007-08-27: Green card production ordered again... ?

2007-08-28: Welcome notice received!

2007-09-01: Green card received!

wow thanks so much. I know that for Nigerians to get a visitors visa to come to the US can be pretty tough, is it the same in Canada? From what you have heard? Other peoples experiences???

Sorry I have no idea how hard it is. I guess the only thing he can do is just try for one and have as much paperwork with him that is suggested on those pages.

It's getting VERY hard for Nigerians to come to Canada to even visit, what with the countries reputation as of recent.

Especially with all the lovley scam operations they have. Meeting online would cause even more scrunity I think...

Nov - Moved to US

1998-2001

Recieved 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th TN

2002

May - Met future wife at arts fest

Nov - Recieved 6th TN

2003

Nov - Recieved 7th TN

Jul - Our Wedding

Aug - Filed for AOS

Sep - Recieved EAD

Sep - Recieved Advanced Parole

2004

Jan - Interview, accepted for Green Card

Feb - Green Card Arrived in mail

2005

Oct - I-751 sent off

2006

Jan - 10 year Green Card accepted

Mar - 10 year Green Card arrived

Oct - Filed N-400 for Naturalization

Nov - Biometrics done

Nov - Just recieved Naturalization Interview date for Jan.

2007

Jan - Naturalization Interview Completed

Feb - Oath Letter recieved

Feb - Oath Ceremony

Feb 21 - Finally a US CITIZEN (yay)

The best he can do is arm himself with whatever evidence they want to see along with whatever she can supply for a visitor's visa (i.e., letter of invitation, etc.). Good luck to him!

I would imagine some things in his favour would be a job, decent finances, apartment/house, etc, kids... anything that would prove ties back to his home country.
