Tourism problems and F-1 visa

Hi everyone!

Last time I went to the US (to LA in November), I had some problems with the CBP because my ex lives there and they thought I might have been there to stalk her. In the end they let me in and I didn't have any trouble at all, nor I ever had any kind of legal problem in the US in general. Now I'd like to go there again, but I'm waiting for my F-1 visa (to go studying in Chicago) and I'm scared that, if they don't allow me to enter, it could be denied, and that they might call my ex and she could tell them to send me back as a revenge. Is that possible or am I being paranoid? Do they usually keep records of what I say during inspections? I know my ex hates me and I would just like to make sure that this won't impact my life.

Thank you!

How did they come to that idea?

Any background check is done at the consulate. I don't see how it will come up if you got a stamp on the passport. CBP will ask you what are you studying, where will you live, things like that. I had an F1.

Because I was initially coming to see her, but we broke up before I left and I came anyway to have a holiday since I already had the plane tickets and the hotel reservation. So I actually understand it might have been suspicious. She's still on my ESTA and I can't change that, though everything looks okay, I only have a sign in one of the last pages of my passport, which they did even before the inspection (so I believe it was a random control, at least at first).

I'm glad they only ask things like that, I hope they didn't write anywhere that I'm a crazy stalker or anything similar and that she can't have any influence on the process to get the visa.

If they had written anything, you wouldn't get the F1 or they would have asked at the interview. I don't think you should worry.

Your answer that you broke up makes sense.
