I understood we didn't HAVE to have the vaccinations for the London medical, but they must be done before AOS...?

That's how I understood it too but I am making sure my shots are up to date because you can get them free here with your GP GeordieLover - I would let your OH know that he can just go to his GP - I went and had my TDP shot free and I am going to go back and get all my other shots on record as well - I got a printed copy of their screen but it looks crappy and I am not sure it will be good enough!!

What are other people's medical experiences? Will the crappy sheet of paper I have be good enough?!?!?

is it as simple as making an appointment? do you need to show paperwork? what about the fact that they won't have any of my prior shots on record? helpppppp meeeeeeee!

I literally phoned up, said to the receptionist I wasn't sure who I needed to see and explained what it was I needed (moving to US, need to get vacs) and she booked me in with the travel nurse. We had a riot trying to figure out what all the shots were (two are the same apparently), looked up what I had already had and gave me the ones I needed.

If you don't have them on record you might need them all again so just show them the table with all the things on and they should just do them all there and then Debz said her MMR made her feel pretty rough though

I can't see why you couldn't - if you are a resident here and have a GP and are entitled to things on the NHS then why not?!

Oh that's a BIG help....I have a feeling someone has just been a BIG fraidy cat..... I'm going to be annoyed if we get delayed or run up a big credit card bill for procrastinating something silly like vaccinations. Especially when he's marrying a school nurse (in charge of vaccinations for little bairns and such!).

Haha - yeah - you defo don't want to wait til the medical - you still have to have all the same but it is just really expensive - the med is expensive enough without having to pay for extra vacs!!!

you don't need pictures to send back Packet 3, do you? just the docs they tell you to fill in... or do you mean the checklist of stuff? you can still send it back and get them a day or two later; you won't get an instant interview date

I'm confused...are you in the UK or AZ? Are you under NHS? How long ago did you have your jabs?

My SO has an appt. next week to get them done and we were told there was no charge! This is from his NHS Doctor's office, they had his all his records (with the excepetion of MMR) but all his vaccinations were over 10 years old...which is too old, so he was told that he needs to get boosters.

I'm in the UK, but grew up in Australia, so had all my shots there... and in fact, now you say it, most of them would be over ten years old (except maybe tetanus, and even that would be pushing it)

did you mention visas when you were making the appointment? or just say you wanted shots?

Yes, I explained about the visa and the medical also took a copy of the vaccination chart too (there are two versions BTW, one that requires Polio and one that does not....I double checked and it IS required)...with everything written out because when we first enquired, the NHS Dr thought TD was a typo and that they must have meant TB. I knew she was wrong but could not remember what TD was in that instant...brain freeze!

Tetanus and Diptheria - that was our query too the other one is TDP which is tetanus Diptheria and Polio

No charge? Where is this again? My SO has been putting off getting his shots because of the money I think (and I think he's scared haha). I'm a little annoyed that he's drug his feet about it. He told me he's going to wait and let him give them at the medical interview (yes...that makes me MORE annoyed because then they get put on his CHARGE card for guess WHO to pay when he comes over and CANT work for three months at least). grrrrrr.

Where can he go to get shots that won't cost an arm and a leg?

My SO's NHS GP in Surrey UK... we filled out a form for the Travel Nurse and he is book in for next Friday to get all his jabs. It only took about 10 minute to sort it all out, and he could have had a sooner appointment if he wanted too. They make appointments up until 6:00pm M-F and it is FREE!

We filled out a form for a travel nurse but you know what you need so you should be able to just book an appointment.

I think you probably have a good enough idea of when they were last done and they don't seem to be overly conservative (at least they did not seem to be at that office) when it comes to the vaccinations. My SO had no record of the MMR and the woman just said...well, I am sure he must have had it thru the school...but we can do it again.

Nah - I never knew what it was at all - confused both me and the nurse!!

I think my memory is poor because I have no desire to put any effort into things at the moment - I am just getting by until I can start my new life

I've shown Peter this thread, he thinks he may have to pay 100 pounds for a doctor's visit...that just doesn't sound right for a few shots. I told him to check on it...I think he's just him hawing around....big chicken. Gotta love him though.
