What exactly is happening between packet 3 & packet 4??

Hi everyone! I just yesterday sent back packet 3 to the embassy in Joburg. I know the processing time and proceedures are different for each embassy, however, I was hoping someone could give me an idea of what is happening behind the scenes between packet 3 and 4? Is this where the Adam Walsh law comes in? And/Or the FBI name check? I am trying to get a grasp on how long it might take before I receive packet 4. So far the embassy has been very quick, but I don't know what is involved for them before they can send me packet 4. Anyone know?

Also, packet 3 stated the cost at the interview would be $390. Anyone know if that is going up July 30th as well? I am hoping our interview will be scheduled prior to then, but it depends on my question above I suppose!

Thanks a ton! So excited to be this far!

I'm sorry I can't answer your first question properly. As for the visa fee (the $390 includes the postal cost to return everything to you) - that will definitely not be increased on the 30th. It's only the petition filing fees that are being increased then.

Actually, it's $380, not $390, or at least was three weeks ago when we went to the Embassy.

Maybe the courier costs more in South Africa?

Courier costs are separate from the visa costs. We paid $380, and then £33.50 (£13.50 for standard delivery, plus £20 for a before 8am delivery) to the courier firm. Actually, technically the visa is $335 and $45 for an enhanced security fee.

A quick search of the US South Africa website seems to infer it's 55 SA Rand for the courier, which is about $8, but the press release which stated this was 2 years old.

Can anyone tell I'm "working from home" (ahem) today?

I am impressed... you folks get the courier price included???? Another reason to :protest: about Montreal - you actually have to bring in your own courier envelope...

For the OP: yes, the Adam Walsh FBI/security name check of the USC is done at this time. It's great to hear you are excited - you're midway kind of, and sooner to the end of the process!!!!

Good luck, L.
