Re-issue expired Indian passport in the USA

Hello,

 

I’m a green card holder residing in the US. My current Indian passport expired in September 2020, and I’d like to get it “re-issued” under the new VFS process. Will I need to submit any special additional documents with my passport application because my passport already expired?

I believe you need to write a letter explaining why you didn't renew before expiration but can't remember from top of my head if it's for renunciation or passport renewal. You should get a checklist in the end just follow the checklist.

@Jot18, the old process with CKGS required me to write a letter like that, but there is no mention of such a letter in the new process with VFS. So, still not sure what additional doc I need to include if the passport already expired.

Just write a letter explaining that you didn't need to travel and due to corona you didn't renew your PP. An additional document like this wouldn't hurt.
