Hello everyone!

I am in the process of AOS through marriage to my U.S. citizen spouse (from an F-1 visa).

Since I-944 has information about health insurance and how that compares to your general health (as judged by I-693), is the I-693 required to be filed as you send in the initial packet? I have seen many people recommend waiting for an RFE so as to not have to do the medical twice.

Thanks for any help!

No, it can be submitted later if you want: https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-8-part-b-chapter-4

Applicants may submit the Form I-693 medical examination report to USCIS:

  • Concurrently with the immigration benefit application; or

  • At any time after filing the immigration benefit application but before USCIS finalizes adjudication of that application. If not submitted simultaneously with the immigration benefit application, applicants may bring the medical examination report to an interview or wait until USCIS issues an RFE requesting the medical examination report.

USCIS might send you a courtesy notice. That notice clearly says: "DO NOT MAIL DOCUMENTS AT THIS TIME."
