I had a look through the DS5540 form and saw there was a section about debt.

I have student debt from 5 years ago which honestly... I haven't been paying back. I live abroad from the UK and tried to sweep it under the rug basically...

Apart from my student debt, I don't feel like I have anything that could contribute "negatively" towards the Public Charge rule.

I know this rule is new and all.. but I was wondering if I could get any opinions on if student debt would have a major impact on my K1 application...

im right there with you on the student loan wagon, although i have been paying mine back it is significant.  As far I can tell, they dont really ask too much about debts, just how much you earn. If you have a $150,000 mortgage how would that really differ from $150,000 student loan? debt is debt. If im wrong some please correct me as i am curious too. Cheers and good luck.

yes, I looked through the form and it just asks the total amount of debt owed. I mean, surely  a positive is that its a student debt and not like a gambling debt...

But I'm also thinking... as my fiancé earns a lot over the poverty line (way above 200%), would they take that into account that I won't be inadmissible..

My current salary and expected salary in the US (when I'm allowed to work) would also be above the FPL. I'm hoping all that outweighs my debt...
