Hi!

I have found myself in a tough spot, entirely my fault by the way... but this is where I am and I was hoping someone out there might have some advice.

I had my citizenship interview on October 7th, 2019. My case was transfered from Seattle, WA to Portland, OR due to USCIS' attempt to even case loads. Everything went smoothly, I got approved and was offered a sameday Oath but if I chose not to, he said the Oath would be scheduled in Seattle.

About, 30 mins before the Ceremony I got a call, as it turned out their certificate machine was not working and they had to cancel the ceremony.

The estimate case completition time now says January (3 months) on the website, the status also shows as 'We approved your application' and hasn't even changed to 'You are in line for the Oath Ceremony'. I have also seen someone who had an interview in Seattle (not Portland) on the same day as me already received their Oath Ceremony date, and also someone who also got transfered to Portland have to wait around 3 month until their Oath Ceremony date.

Well, here is the deal. I had bough some plane tickets on my married name. The airline is saying that to change the name to my maiden name (non-US passport) I have to pay a fee and then they'd re-issue the ticket and I'd have to pay the difference (the trip is around Christmas time so you can imagine that prices are getting higher the closer we get to the date).

I have tried calling USCIS to request an appointment at my local office and the lady I spoke to was very short from the begining, I don't even think she was listening to anything I was saying, and basically told me 'yeah, tough luck'.

So here I am wondering if there is anything I can do, other than wait to see if I get lucky (though as you have seen my luck is pretty lacking). The fact that all this is happening because a printing machine broke is frustrating beyond I can express. I am not sure what to do, or if there is even anything I CAN do, besides beating myself over not buying the ticket on my maiden name.

Anyway, if any of you have some words of advice I'd be very greatful!

Thanks

Your issue is that the ticket was bought for a "future" name and hence, your only option is to deal with the airline directly.

Unfortunately, the USCIS cannot do much at this point because most of the process is automated centrally. Only in rare cases (extremely long delays) one may be able to get an oath ceremony at another location.
