This seems so silly (and somewhat weird) to ask, but how do I know my case has been touched?

I just had my biometrics but every time I check my file status I only see the following message:

On May__, 2007, we received this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

And I have never received an email update (though I should have got one about the biometrics, I think).

Is there another place to check my file? Currently, I'm just putting in my receipt numbers on the USCIS main page.

What does a "touch" even look like?

I just want to be touched

Cheers, Cardamom

Go here to the online case status site https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp and create a customer account. (this is linked from the main USCIS webpage). Then add the case (by receipt number) to your portfolio. You will see a last update date, which is the date your case was "touched." A touch does not necessarily result in a status change and email.

Thanks guys! This explains a lot - especially the two different types of touches...so we've only been touched in terms of some minor work done on our file (as of 6/7/07) and not any change in our status...oh well, maybe on Monday:-)
