Immigration Reform Must Include Protection for U.S. Border Agents

Contact: Don Swarthout, President, Christians Reviving America's Values (CRAVE), 859-219-1222, 859-619-2811

WASHINGTON, May 30 /Christian Newswire/ While Congress debates Immigration Reform, Don Swarthout, President of Christians Reviving America's Values (CRAVE) is calling for the protection of U.S. border patrol agents.

Swarthout said, "If we are going to give 12 million Illegal Aliens amnesty after they have illegally broken into our country, we should also make sure our U.S. border agents are protected as well. Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos are absolutely perfect examples."

Compean got 12 years and Ramos 11 years after being charged with attempted murder when they shot a drug smuggler who was trying to escape back into Mexico. An over zealous prosecutor unjustly convicted Compean and Ramos who were just trying to do their jobs. This is just one of several recent unjust prosecutions of our border patrol agents.

CRAVE is calling upon our Congress to include urgently needed language in the Immigration Reform Bill to protect our border patrol agents from over zealous prosecutors and to immediately free Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos.

Don Swarthout said, "Let's not forget where this problem started. It started when the Illegal Alien broke into our country. If that had never happened then this whole incident would have never happened."

"President Bush must pardon these two agents in order to just be fair to everyone involved. If we can pardon Illegal Aliens for breaking the law, then we must pardon Compean and Ramos," Swarthout concluded.

Kennedy conspicuously ignored the injustice done to two border patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who tried to apprehend a Mexican drug smuggler. Instead of prosecuting the drug smugglers, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton turned justice on its head and went after Ramos and Compean for using too much force in apprehending the Mexican criminal. Sutton secured his conviction on the basis of the tainted testimony of the Mexican drug smuggler.

Mexican Drug Runner Shot by Border Agents Breaks His Silence

Osvaldo Aldrete Davila was shot in February 2005 by Border Patrol Agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos as he tried to drive further into the United States with a van full of 700 pounds of marijuana. He was given immunity from prosecution in March 2005 for his cooperation in that investigation and subsequent trial, which culminated last year.

Ramos and Compean are now serving 11 and 12-year prison sentences.

Official: Mexican Drug Runner Shot by Border Agents Smuggled More Drugs Into U.S.

[Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.:]"The U.S. Attorney's Office presented to the jury and presented to the public as if this guy Davila was a benign, hapless Mexican man who had just been recruited to drive a truck in order to raise money for medical expenses for his mother," Rohrabacher told FOXNews.com.

"Had the jury known that there were indications that he was a professional and he lied to his handlers even after they had granted him immunity for the first time, his testimony would have been worthless and it also suggests that he was more likely to have been carrying a weapon."

Free Ramos, Compean

President Bush's refusal to pardon Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean -- and White House spokesman Tony Snow's attitude of indifference regarding same -- is a slap in the face to families of murder victims slain by convicted felons in the country illegally and to our nation's law-enforcement professionals.

That damn drug runner was not only pursued into Mexico by the Justice Department, they gave him immunity, and looked the other way while he continued to smuggle drugs across the border. Now, he's sueing for 5 million dollars. More of your taxpayer dollars at work. Yah! for CRAVE's stand on this issue!

That makes me angry.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
