Asking for my husband's cousin who is a LPR. He immigrated by winning the green card lottery. One of the questions for getting the green card asked if he was in the military. He answered no, because he was not in the military. Now that he is eligible to apply for naturalization, he has a question about question number 19, which asks if he was ever a member of the military (no) but also asks if he was ever a member of a paramilitary. He was a member of a security force for 5 weeks under the umbrella of NATO, but at that time it was just a security force, not military. Is a security force the same thing as paramilitary? How can he know what is the correct answer? TIA

If he held a gun and there was a military order, then he should have reported it.  He needs to report in on the N-400.

No military. That was my question. There was no military, only a NON military Security Force. His country had no military at that time. They were protected by NATO. The question is, is a non-military Security Force the same as a Paramilitary?
