DR citizens - $10 tourist tax

Visitors to the Dominican Republic must pay a $10 tourist tax to get the 30 day permission to be ib the country. The government has "helpfully" included this in the airline ticket purchase price. However, it was included for everyone - even Dominican citizens! The only way to get the $10 back was to wait in a line in a separate building in the capital and a lot of hassle.

Since the last time I checked, though, there is a way to get the $10 back online if you go to the DR website and plug in your info. I haven't tried it yet (Dominicans must arrive in the countey before the refund can be applied for and issued), but this might be worth checking out for Dominicans!

...my husband was dubious as to whether the plugging ib the info was worth the $10, but I think it's worth it on principle. :)
