Sorry, no sympathy here.

Unfortunately seems to be par-for-course with United!

Really? I fly all the time with United and they're pretty good to me. I wish I could say the same about Delta, American and US Air.

I've had so-so with Delta and AA within North America; only disaster with United (especially since it too-oft codeshares with Air Canada).

As for useless-air,...

I had a situation last year where my luggage stayed in Chicago and I arrived in Ukraine without it. I had to catch a flight the next day. I only had what I was wearing and a change of underwear. It was ironic that I happen to be standing in line to catch my next flight when they called me and said my luggage had arrived at the airport. I walked out of line and got it. I learned from that point to leave clothes behind so I will at least have a change of clothes!

Well, at least you were close to your destination, before the problems began.

I once sat on the tarmac at Dulles for 7 hours, before a long flight, while they replaced an engine cowling that fell off.

United is a very good airline.

The booze was flowing on that flight!!
