Hi all,

My son is 10 and has his green card, I believed in order for me to submit my taxes including him as dependant of me, I had to get him an ITIN but my petition was rejected, IRS says he can get a SSN, is that right?

I thought k-2 visas couldn't get a SSN at least that's what I was told by Social Security office previous to get our Green Card. But they never mention he could get the number after the Green Card.

Now I am concerned, my tax returned is pending, I don't know what is going to happen, Can I get the SSN for my son or do I have to apply again for the ITIN and give more information to get it this time?

If I can get my son's SSN how do I correct this for tax purposes?

Please Help!

Now that your son has a green card, he is entitled to a SSN. So go down to the SS office with the green card and get it, then once you have the number, you can send back your taxes with the new information.

Rocio,

LPRs are eligible for SSN and card, as Jane says.
