In 2015 i went to America through an agency to work and study as an au pair and got a J1 visa. I stayed there for a year and then came back to England in October of 2016. I didn’t get time to travel whilst i was there and really wanted to see some more of America so thought i could go back on a B2 visa. I applied pretty much immediately after getting back and got denied. I then applied for an ESTA as i found out you could be there for a month on the ESTA but obviously couldn’t get that as I’d been denied a visa before. I tried once more for a B2 visa but was denied as they didn’t think i had strong enough ties in England.

The other day i got an email from the agency i was with and they said i could return as an au pair this year. This got me thinking if i would be given another J1 visa after being denied so many times but as it was almost two years ago now I’m not sure if it’ll matter because it’s a different category for visas anyway.

would appreciate any advice of help anyone has to offer!

J1 visa puts on you the same burden of proof of nonimmigrant intent as visitor visas: you have to prove your strong ties to England and temporary nature of your intended stay in the US.

Previous B2 denials will make it harder, but since a lot of time has passed your situation could have changed—and if you will be able to prove that, you should get a visa.

A colleague of mine got her B1/B2 after five or six denials. Your situation is not that desperate :)

I’m planning on going through an au pair agency that sorts all of the paperwork out but it shows where I’m staying and who is ‘sponsoring’ me if you like. However when i applied the first time i didn’t have to prove i had strong ties to the UK apart from saying i lived with my parents. I don’t own any property in England or have a job to come back to so would that make me set up for a denial?

thanks
