E-ticket is "Electronic Ticket" purchased online from a ticket broker or airline using your credit card. Kayak.com is one of hundreds of sites you can purchase e-tickets from.

I've gone to the Philippines twice, once this year and once last year. Used Travelocity and Orbitz. Both informed me that they do not issue e-tickets for international travel and they would have to send me paper tickets. So seems like there is possibly some confusion here I don't know. Maybe they were blowing smoke up my butt. Simply ordering tickets online does not make your tickets e-tickets. For e-tickets you get a confirm email that you print and that is your e-ticket so you can proceed to the counter and get boarding passes at the airport.

Actually they do still use paper tickets for international flights. My flight was last month. It comes down to if you carrier will allow e-tickets. If they will you're good to go.

Timeline

I've been to the Philippines five times--three trips in 2003 when we met and got married. One trip in 2005 and another in 2006. The first three trips I was issued boarding passes at the airport. The airline, Northwest, and the ticket agent never sent so-called paper tickets. My identification, passport and printed itinerary from the travel agent was all I presented at the airport in the States and in Manila for the return leg of the trip. The packet I was issued by the gate agent was just a packet of boarding passes with magnetic strips for machine reading.

In 2005 we were told that paper tickets would be mailed to us. The agent mailed us a packet of papers which looked like boarding passes but were clearly printed 'e-ticket'. We printed our boarding passes using my Northwest Airlines World Perks Silver membership card. We did not present any of the packet of documents until we changed airlines in L.A. from Northwest to Cathay Pacific.

In 2006 it was the same scenario. The travel agent mailed us a packet containing our itinerary and boarding passes. These are not tickets although the larger portion does say ARC flight coupon and the stub says 'boarding pass'.

I have beside me on my desk the latest packet of documents from our travel agent. It contains an itinerary, flight coupons with attached boarding passes. My understanding from the agent was that these were to be paper tickets. I have my doubts!

YMMV

I think it depends on airline and ticket agent. I have traveled to Philippines in 2005 and twice in 2006. I was issued an E-ticket (electronic iternary) for all times flying United Airlines in the US, connecting to Cathay Pacific to Philippines. I used the bt-store.com agency, they will tell you some routes/airlines may issue paper tickets.

I always use etickets. Just make sure you print off the confirmation thingy you get from whoever is issuing the ticket. I had to have it when I left and also when I returned.
