I think that being able to carry a concealed weapon everywhere is a great idea. If some creep threatens me with a knife, I want to be able to point my gun at him. We all have the right to protect ourselves, no matter where we are - at the mall, in the park or at school.

So just hand out guns to everyone. Yeah, that will work.

I don't believe "jewel12" was saying to hand out guns to everyone and I don't think anyone really advocates that either. But if you are a law abiding citizen the you should be able to have a gun. When the goverment starts taking away guns from us, the "bad guys" will still get them and the we will be defenseless. I am sure you have heard the age old saying; "If you outlaw guns, the only outlaws will have guns". That rings so true.

Oh, I do apologize... I had no idea I'd offended anyone by simply disliking guns. I didn't mean to insinuate that Europe was permanently at peace, like some uber-alien race - and I am not anti American - but funny you should say that, because in my experience, the moment you disagree with anything considered "intrinsically American" in this country, you get name called or worse.

I will sit here like a good little foreigner and be quiet now.

Nobody's asking for silence, just truth and honesty. I can be quick to criticize my own country, but I take offense at it being criticized for what I feel are the wrong reasons, and I don't like it when Europeans put on rose-colored glasses about the history of their own continent, which is soaked in more blood than pretty much any other.

You may not have meant to say that Europe is 'permanently at peace,' but that is certainly how I interpreted what you wrote.
