Hi all:

We are going to be filling our paperwork in the next few days and we are curious about the work credits.

He is here on an H1B, since mid 2000, therefore he already has quite a few quarters under his belt. Will these be transferable, or does he begin anew with regard to amassing Social Security dollars? Also, if it is transferrable, will this be used to decrease the length of time that the I-864 is, in effect, effective?

Thanks so much.

The work credits are based on the Social Security Number (SSN). So if he will have the same SSN he will be okay. However, if by chance he is issued a new SSN...he will just need to contact the Social Security Administration and they will link his two accounts. So yes...he will get credit for those years worked.
