Decoding USCIS Case Numbers

Hello Visa Journey community.

I have come across this article here on 'interpreting' USCIS case numbers. It was an interesting read, but I was then surprised to see my case number didn't conform to the usual numbers. It contains a "0" where the article has "5" being the common number preceding case-order--received. I checked a few June filer numbers and noticed they all had "5" in the corresponding spot so the article, though from 2015, is probably still accurate.

Of course, I researched the meaning a "0" and found two old VJ posts from 2006 and 2011 about "0" meaning 'mainframe' records - e.g., case status not publicly available online.  Not sure what that means, because I am able to enter my number in the USCIS case tracker and get standard "your case has been received" response.

I haven't found any other recent articles talking about "0" v.s. "5". Does anyone have any thoughts? Should this be something I inquire about? Our NOA2 date should be coming up in the next 5 weeks... We hope not to be too outside the VJ estimated times...

Any thoughts? Thanks.

I think they’ve parked that now, because all CSC numbers start with WAC, then the fiscal year and then 90 ..

.. then they pretty much go in sequence of when they receive the applications.
