Hi all,

So we received a blue slip stating to have either my mother or father fill out an I-864 Form to become a joint sponsor along with myself (the petitioning sponsor). They each both make sufficient income, and they combine it on their income tax returns.  We decided to select my mother. Immigration has I-864As for both of my parents. My question is: is my mother the "only joint sponsor" or would she be considered the "first of 2 joint sponsors"? Additionally, should we list my father's income on our form, since they combine it on their tax returns? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The parent who earns more should sign a completed I-864 and the parent who earns less should sign a completed I-864a for that I-864 (not your I-864.)  The joint sponsor I-864 will be the only joint sponsor and the I-864a is their household member.

Thanks for the clarification! So my mother would be the I-864 "only joint sponsor",  while my father would be the I-864A "household member".

And that means on my mother's I-864, Part 6 Item 3 (where is says to list any household members who are combining their income) I would list my dad and his current income, correct?
