Hi,

I am grasping at straws here and I believe there is not much that can be done but I wanted to reach out to VJ'ers SME's to verify.  My wife currently has ROC pending but is eligible to apply for citizenship December 9.  Currently our Portland office is taking 6-7 months for application to oath.  My stepson who immigrated separately from his mom, will turn 18 on May 2.  We want him to get his citizenship thru his mom of course.  It appears the Portland office schedules oath ceremonies 1 day each month at the courthouse.  In 2018 the date in May is May 17.  From looking at timelines it appears most interview and oaths are same day.  My questions are:

Can we do anything to expedite?  I know we do not meet the expedite criteria, but would a congressional help?  Would a congressman even be able to help if they wanted to?

Is the date of naturalization, the date the application is approved or the date of the oath?  For purposes of his naturalization if it wasn't on the same day.

Thanks

A congressperson or any other person outside of the officials working on your can can never have any influence on your case. The only thing they can do is inquire about your case if it is outside of normal processing times. If your case is outside of normal processing times, then an inquiry will simply make them aware of that.

A congressperson (or anyone else for that matter) can never request a case be expedited. This would open up all kinds of bribery.

You have already researched the criteria for expedite. Giving it a try "just to see" is frivolous in my opinion.

Naturalization occurs when you are sworn in at Oath Ceremony.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I thought as well.  I just was looking for confirmation that I wasn't missing something and you nailed it.  Have a great day.

agreed!  "aware" doesn't mean they will treat your case specially, instead, they will simply kick the ball back saying the application is not ready for interview or oath yet...

both your family should be aware that the naturalization processing depends on many factors. there is absolutely no guarantee when it gets approved and when you will receive the certificate.

to your stepson, becoming a citizen doesnt give much change or opportunity when he is still in college or entering job market.
