Hello VJ patient ones.

If you're interested in India information, I just found something out from my wife (who is far far away from me in India). We tried to speed up the process a bit by getting the police certificate done ahead of time. Chennai will be sending her the interview letter shortly, but haven't yet. Just so you know - they need to see the letter from the consulate asking for the interview in order to issue a police certificate.

Hopefully this will save you from wasting the time running around trying to get the police cert. Good luck!

K-3 Visa

07/22/2006 - Applied for K1 - I-129F mailed to Vermont Service Center, VSC

08/02/2006 - Package got sent back requesting a different form (different revision). Proceeded to weep like a girl. Decided against fiance visa with newfound setback. Will wait for December wedding.

12/24/2006 - Marriage

02/13/2007 - I-130 NOA1 received

I want to "second" that. My wife also in India (and far away from me :crying: ) has her interview scheduled for May 24th. We ended up waiting for the interview letter before she went to get the cleareance certificates. When she did go, they asked her for the interview letter. This was the case for both the local police cleareance and the passport cleareance as well.

My wife went to the passport office in Mumbai and all she was asked to do is fill out a form for the clearance cert from them. They didn't ask her for an appointment letter.

For the local police clearance certificate she was just asked to fill a form and pay a demand draft of Rs. 100. They didn't ask her for the appointment letter here either...

My wife would be going to the Bombay Consulate as well. She has applied for the police cert from local police station and they did not ask her for anything. We are still months away from the interview letter.

I assume the differences that have been noted here can be attributed to the fact that police and passport offices accross India have different processes and procedures..

Lesson learned: Contact your local police and passport offices and understand what the requirments are before trying to apply for the cleareances.

Good luck to you all with your journeys.

It seems that most people are more familiar with Mumbai rules as opposed to Chennai. If anyone has Chennai details, please post accordingly. Including the Packet 3 or Packet 4 process that us lucky VJ users can speed up (if only we knew what they needed).

That's the problem. There is no system! We need structure!

My husband got his PCC from both police offices and passport office WITHOUT the interview letter and he had no problem.

I guess it differs from state to state.

My hubby is in Delhi and he was able to get both of his clearance certificates back when we applied for our I-130 itself. Guess you are right about the rules being different in each state.
