Hey, I am getting ready to mail out my N400 form. On the question "have you ever not filed a tax return" question do I need to check Yes or no?

here is my history since we got our green card:

2008/2009/2010/2011/2012 I was a dependent working minimally (below IRS requirements to file) and was going to school

2013: I was a dependent working minimally (below IRS requirements to file) and was going to school

2014: I was a dependent not working  and was going to school

2015: I filed joint taxes with me and my wife

2016: I filed joint taxes with me and my wife.

So do I need to mark Yes and attach an explanation as to why I didn't file for 2008-2014 or does being a dependent allow me to check "no" on the tax forms?

I thought i read somewhere (cannot find the link) saying that if you are a dependent you still have to check "yes" and provide an explanation that you were working minimal amount below the IRS requirements. what do you guys think?

thank you
