Hi,

My husband has been here on a cr1 visa for 1 year. My mom is a joint sponsor.

Long story short, My family fell on hard times and the lady I work with is in rehabilitation for a couple months. The company could only find me a small amount of hours this month.

My question:

Can I ( US citizen) apply for food stamps if my husband is here on a cr1? I know he's obviously not a citizen yet so he's not eligible.

If so, on the application I have to list household members. Will it cause any problems for us when we apply for the 10 year renewal?

This is my first time applying for help, so I'm unsure whether they can automatically exclude him since hes not a citizen.

Thank you

I recommend contacting SNAP for your state. The way it's suppose to work is that you are entitled to SNAP, but your spouse is not. You are supposed to include the immigrants spouse's income (if they have any) even though they are not entitled.

In regards to the 10 year GC (aka ROC stage), no it won't cause a problem. The ROC is about comingling of finances and your relationship.
