I have a technical question on this topic... What last name did the GC holder travel on? The name on the foreign passport or name on the GC? I'd just hate to see travel plans ruined because the name we put on reservations didnt match the passport they slide when checking in at the airport etc...

We just got back home Saturday from a glorious week in Vancouver. My wife has her passport in her name. Her greencard however, reflects her married name. We bought her plane ticket with her married name. For both departure from and arrival to US, she used her passport and greencard which had two slightly different names and there was no problem at all. I say slightly different because she just added my last name to her own name.

So... in other words, she has a hyphenated surname? I suppose that might work a little easier in some cases than completely changing your last name. Still, I wouldn't want to chance it and so long as her passport was in her maiden name, I'd book the tickets in her maiden name too. As many others have said, I'd just bring along a copy of the marriage certificate to back up the greencard.

But if it worked for you doing it this way, congrats! I wouldn't bet the bank on it, but I'm glad it worked. It would've been a real hassle if it hadn't.

You are correct: she has a hyphenated surname on her greencard. We traveled to Europe last year also without any hassle
