Hello all, I am new to this forum. I have browsed and read a few threads in similarity to my sister's situation but did not find what I am exactly looking for.

Anyhow, my mom, a legal resident, petitioned for my sister after the first attempt by my family member failed. (my dad's sister petitioned for all of us, but my sister wasn't able to obtain the green card because she "aged-out",,, ) so my mom petitioned right after she got the green card.

the waiting time has passed and she's able to apply for a visa now.... the lawyer we've seen told us that we did not get a letter to continue because my mom isn't a citizen. My sister could not go through the i485 route to adjust. she has to file the i601a, apply for visa, leave the country and come back.... this wrecks my nerves as I do not know if it is a 100% success. I am very scared that a visa will not be issued to my sister once she leaves the country to get the interview in venezuela. The asking price to help us do all this paper work is very hefty and I just wanted some guidance if this is the most appropriate route to take. she didn't specify in details to the exact order or application nor time frame (I assume this is to preserve her job lol) but she basically summarized it as: apply for 601a waiver, visa application, travel back to venezuela to get an interview at the US embassy to obtain visa, travel back to the states with the waiver. Then once inside the states, to follow "standard procedure" to get the green card....  Is this what you guys went through? Please give me some insights. I am in an emotional wreck because of this and I cannot imagine losing my sister. (we came here on our teens, finished JHS, HS, and College here.. ) Thank you very much.
