we bought a cyberhome thinking it played all regions but does not play UK (or my numerous HK) DVDs -- how do you fix that Rebecca? What is this code?

Check out that link I posted above, just search for Cyberhome. There are lots of different models.

There is one minor caveat - there are no instructions as to how to change regions included with the player (but can be found with an internet search).

Not to worry, though - this is how you do it:

1. With no disc in the tray, push "Menu" "1" "9" (ignoring the "No" symbol that appears on the upper left-hand corner of the screen).

2. A menu will appear that shows in highlight the region it is set to (almost certainly Region 1). Push the "Enter" button and the region number will change. You can set it to any region (1 through 6) or to Region 0, which means it will play PAL or NTSC DVDs from all 6 DVD regions!

3. Push the "Open/Close" button to close the menu, and you're done!

To make any DVD player region free, just do a google search for DVD region free hacks or something like that. I made mine region free just by hitting a few numbers on the remote - easy peezy!

Wow - I feel all crazy spy like right now, trying to sort this out.

Do you know if your player limits the number of times you can swap back and forth? Lovely Microsoft has stuff in the computer that gives you 5 swaps before you're stuck with the last thing you pick.

It you use a hack to set it to region 0, there isn't any reason to swap regions again as it will be able to play DVDs from any and every region. They do warn you that changing region encoding voids any warranty you might have, though. As if anybody cares. ;)

I've just noticed that "region" is one of those words that looks misspelled even when it isn't. Or maybe it's just me. :wacko:
