lol today I start the first of seven straight 1-10pm shifts at Walmart (which isn't bad as I'm only supposed to work 3 days a week  ) but I don't actually mind as we have snow back in the forecast for the northeast so won't be missing too much. Just know by the end of the weekend I am going to be soooooooooo sick of the sight of American candy, cannot believe the quantities EVERYONE buys - but at least I have a Flake egg for me and a Roses egg for hubby stashed away

I work for a council - and we get given an extra day off after every bank holiday, so I've got a five day weekend!

I don't really agree with the policy - council tax bills are so high that it seems wrong for tax payers to pay for extra holiday days for thousands of staff; but I will be making the most of it and heading off to Somerset for a few days!

I wonder if the embassy staff in London have an extra day off too?

I work for an ex-public sector company privatised in the mid-90s and until last year we also got the extra day off too -- we called it "Super Tuesday". Then someone figured out that most of us didn't necessarily want to have it off and the days were converted into normal annual leave to be used as we saw fit. The major problem was that US contacts would call in and be totally confused why the office was closed until Wednesday!!! "Damn Brits, always on holiday!"

(Certainly didn't seem to me that we were always on holiday!)

Sadly no 4 day weekend here for me either! Its a dry spell here at the bank for official holidays - nothing from President's day until Memorial Day. UGH! But at least its only 15 days, 17 hours, 24 minutes and 10 seconds until I arrive in the UK to see my man!!!! :D Not that I'm counting....

Hey, at least you get President's day. ;)

^^ Ditto that! We don't get bupkis again till Memorial Day (my birthday this year!).

I have to go to a conference on Memorial Day Weekend as well, so I don't even get that off.

OK - so the conference is in Waikiki.... ;)

My dad is a fed govt employee - he doesn't have Friday off for Good Friday (he's off but that's due to his flex schedule). I don't think its a federal holiday.

Sure isn't (I've worked projects for IRS and USPTO before--and not gotten that day, or Easter Monday off).

However, some STATE GOV's (such as GA) do (the monday, not the friday--in 2000, a former employer arranged to have a 10-hour "discuss ways to multiply revenues 10-fold" meeting on Easter Monday, as its main client GADOE was closed for that day; I AWOL'd from the meeting by driving to Memphis on Good Friday, and driving back in leisurely manner on Monday).

Enjoy your 4 day Easter weekend, because you won't get it once you arrive in the USA!

I'm working in the US, and I get a 4 day weekend. Woot for working in a small company where almost everyone is religious! :D
