Hi,

I'm not entirely sure how to use this BBS, so I'm not sure how to add a new topic, but keep it in the Cambodian thread. I'm just replying to N Bohr (BTW, love the name)

Fellow filers and those who have "been there, done that" My fiance is very concerned about her interview. Please help me allay her fears. My fiance would like to also get an "engagement certificate" I don't know what that is exactly, but it sounds like that is crossing the line into legal contract territory, and I don't want to jeopardize my K1 status. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

"Engagement Certificate" aside, I do plan on having the engagement ceremony for her family. I understand that bringing some pictures to the PP embassy for the interview may help.

To all those who have passed your interview. Did you need to present proof of the engagement ceremony. Did you need to present the ring, or receipt for the ring. I want to get this right the first time. I've read that in some embassy offices, the engagement photos are actually a very bad thing to present.

Thanks in advance. I'm really glad you are here.

Hellow fellow Filers,

I recently filed an I-129F for my fiancee in Cambodia. My timeline is as follows:

12/22/2009 -- Submitted I-129F to USCIS

12/23/2009 -- NOA1

03/03/2010 -- NOA2

03/08/2010 -- NVC Received

03/08/2010 -- Started to gather documents needed for the interview

Being a newbie here, I am hoping to gain expereinces from other filers who have been there before me and will share my experience with future filers. Any tips you have for the rest of this long journey (dealing with NVC, Consulate in Phnom Penh, the interview process, POE: Los Angeles), will be much appreciated.

I just started using a pinless calling card from RebTel. It is more convenient and less expensive than most calling cards. It costs me 5.9 cents to call my fiancee on her cell phone in Cambodia. Check this out: http://www.rebtel.com

Good luck to all,

Sok (SokandVichhika)

Sok - welcome to your next stage in this immigration process. If you haven't done so already, please get familiarize with some of the VJWiki shortcuts (LingChe Shortcut & James Shortcut). NVC should be alot faster than USCIS if you follow some of the recommendations in the shortcuts. The most importing task to do Monday is to get your NVC case number (if you don't have that already). Here are the steps fly though NVC:

  • Start collecting supporting documents for the AOS and DS-230 packages. These include:
      • For the AOS Package:
        • Latest tax return from the previous 3 years
        • Tax transcripts to the above 3 years tax return (follow LingChe shortcut)
        • Copy of W2 for the above 3 years of tax return
        • Employment Letter
        • Co-sponsor if you needed (will also need all of the above documents plus shows that he/she is a USC and an how he/she is related to you.

    • For the I-230 Package:
      • Completed DS-230 part I & II and ONLY part I signed by your fiancee
      • Certify copy of your fiancee birth certificate
      • Certify copy of your fiancee police record
      • Photocopy of your fiancee's passport biographic data page
      • 4 passport photos (2x2 inch)

  • Call NVC @ (603) 334-0700 and use your USCIS case number to see if they assigned you a NVC Case number
  • Once you have NVC case number talk to the operator ((603) 334-0700) and give both your fiancee and your email addresses
  • At this point get your fiance to email NVC her DS-3032 (appointment of agent). Once NVC approved this, you can pay for your Immigration Visa fee or DS-230 fee on NVC online payment system
  • Then check your email to see if you get any correspondence from NVC. What you're looking for in this email is the immigration Invoice Identification Number. Once you have this number you should go to NVC online payment system to pay for the AOS and the DS-230packet.
  • Once you pay for the AOS and IV fee, print out the cover sheet and attach the corresponding bar coded cover sheet to the AOS and IV packet and send them out.
  • Wait for case complete at NVC and your documents forward to the US Consulate in Cambodia

Again the above is just a summary of NVC steps. You should read and re-read the shortcuts above. Wish you have a speedy and RFE free journey:)

Ken,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide me with details needed for the next steps. I will call the NVC tomorrow to give them our email addresses and get the status of our case. I have most of the items you listed. I will have everything gathered by the end of this week.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Best of luck to you.

Sometimes they don't and sometimes they do. However, the bulletin board to the left of the entrance to the Embassy explicitly state that the petition should not come in with the interviewee during the scheduled interview unless otherwise noted.

There were two US Citizens on the day my wife, fiancee at the time had her interview. We were both stopped at the gate and asked to step back. My fiancee passed but unfortunately, they said he needed a letter from his employer stating title, salary, and length of time employed. They did allow him inside to dispute this but didn't do any good. Don't know what happened afterward.
