When to inform USCIS of address change

Hello Everyone,

I have a questionregarding the timing of when to tell USCIS of our address change.

My fiance came on a K-1 visa last month and we will be getting married November 13. Right now we are living at my parents' house. The lease on our new apartment starts November 1 and we will start moving our things into the apartment in early November, but we won't actually live there ourselves until the day we come back from our honeymoon (November 20).

I don't want to change our address with USCIS before our lease starts because I'm worried they might send us mail and we won't receive it. But we will be submitting our AOS paperwork within a few weeks after the wedding (let's say November 30). What address should I put on all these forms? Is there enough time to change our address between the lease starting on November 1 and us submitting the paperwork on November 30? I don't know how long that usually takes, most things with USCIS seem to take several weeks. I don't mind putting my parents' address on the forms since I know they will give me any mail that comes, but it technically won't be correct. It probably also won't look good to say that we're married but still living with my parents.

Or, can I just put our new address on these forms and not do anything else? If they see the new address will they update their records themselves, or do I have to do their official change of address form on their website?

The USCIS doesn't care about your address until you submit AOS - and it sounds like you'll be in your new apartment by then anyway,

We had to do a change of address on ours in the middle of the AOS process and it only took them a day or 2 to do so. I would just submit the change of address on the USCIS website as soon as you guys are back from your honeymoon and then use your new address on the AOS/EAD/AP paperwork accordingly. You should be able to see when they touch and complete the address change on their website when looking at your case, we were able to see it and had no issues receiving paperwork from them at the new address.

And USCIS does want to know when your address changes as on all their notices/papers that they send out, they state "If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address." This applies even after you have your greencard in hand. Until you become an actual US Citizen, you are suppose to update your new address anytime you move.

Prystine, thanks for your answer. I didn't realize they process the change in address so quickly. I'll just update it online. Since you've done this already, I'll ask another question. When I went to the website it asked this question: Is this change of address for an application or petition currently in progress?

I'm not sure of the answer to this. If it's referring to our I-129f petition for his K-1 visa, then I think I would say "no" since he's already received it. It's not in progress anymore, right? But the next step is AOS, which will not have started yet, since I will fill this out before I send in that paperwork. So the answer would be no?

One more thing. Since I'll be signing the affidavit of support, I think I need to update my address with USCIS too, right? Do I just submit the address change twice, once for him and once for me? It looked like the form was just for one person.
