Hi.,

I just applied for a US passport with my naturalization certificate and the person handling the application stapled it. (It was at a local library). She also showed us the guidelines saying she was supposed to staple everything together.

Is that Ok? I know USCIS are particular and about doing things wit the certificate, but I don't remember if stapling is Ok or not.

That's normal, when I applied for my passport the lady stapled mine lol. I was about to go off on her lol. However it got back to me undamaged thank God. So it's okay, no worries.

So my question was whether the actual stapling is Ok or if this by itself is considered damaging to the certificate.

I don't really understand what is the purpose of your question so I can give you a good satisfying answer but I'll try.

The certificate is not damaged by stapling as long as it does not take out the information on it. If the staple makes a big hole ( i would say bigger than a nickel) where some info like certificate number, name or other personal information is missing than I would say yes you need a replacement.

Thank you, you answered my question exactly!
