I am a US citizen. My husband is from Mexico. Our interview is set at the end of October for his CR 1 visa. We are having difficulty with understanding if he needs a police certificate? If so he resides in Playa Del Carmen and can he get one there?

On our interview paperwork I understand in the instructions it states he needs one but under the list of documents needed it states unobtainable with the symbol X.

Please let me know if you can help. Of course the embassy number disconnected me:(

Thank you

I'm not sure how Mexico is but for my husband he's lived in a certain province in dr but must go to Santa Domingo to get his police certificate which has changed the past few years. If the embassy isn't a help try googling police certificate for USA visa or there should be a link from the visa centers website with the document requirements for interview

I had my interview December last year in Cd. Juarez, and my list had the same "X" next to the police certificate, it's not needed, the consular officer didn't requested. Don't worry.

Long version: I wanted to be prepared, to get the police report, it has to be initiated by an official department, in my case, I went to the Mexican Consulate, they wrote a letter requesting the police certificate, I presented it when I was in Mexico, just to find out it was directed to the wrong office! The was no human or divine power to help me get the police certificate. When I ask where could I get the "Constancia de Datos Registrales", nobody could tell me.

Here is a link with more info in Spanish: http://www.pgr.gob.mx/datosregistrales/Paginas/default.aspx

In brief, very hard to get and if it has an "X", you don't need it.

Very good luck to you and your Husband.
