  • My interview date is scheduled for 1st November 2016 at Mumbai Consulate.
  • My current passport expires on 24th June 2017.
  • The website mentioned in my Appointment letter referred to a website nvc.state.gov/interview for preparing for the interview.
  • This website had a form to download (APPOINTMENT PACKAGE FOR IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS- PACKET 4 ) for the documents - SPECIFIC TO THE MUMBAI CONSULATE.
  • It says that the passport must be valid for eight months from the date of the interview.
  • Do I need to get a new passport before the interview?
  • If yes then ; Do I need to apply for the DS-260 all over again to the NVC and wait for their approval and a new interview date?
    OR
  • Can I just carry the new passport to the consulate on the current interview date?

I would get a new passport just so you don't have to deal with renewal when you get to US or if its an issue at interview.

All you need to do is bring both passports to interview. They will update the DS-260.
