Weird NVC checklist

Hi everyone,

I got a checklist from NVC. It goes like this:

We reviewed your I-864, I-864EZ, I-864W or I-864A Affidavit of Support form and supporting financial documents. While we will schedule your case for an interview, either your Affidavit of Support was incomplete, some of your supporting documents were missing, or both. This could affect the Consular Officer's ability to make a decision on your case.

On the attached Affidavit of Support Assessment Letter, we have put an "X" by each item you need to correct. Go to the Department of State's website at http://nvc.state.gov/aos and follow the instructions for the Affidavit of Support form(s).

If your Affidavit of Support form(s) needs correction:

  • Fill out a new form(s) online.
  • Print, sign and send the original form(s) to the principal applicant so he or she can take them to the visa interview. Do not send the updated form(s) to the NVC. If we are missing required supporting documents:
  • Send the missing documents to the principal applicant so he or she can take them to the visa interview. Do not send the documents to the NVC.

The NVC will send your case to the processing U.S. Embassy or Consulate General. Please make sure that the documents you take to your interview are in the correct order and stapled together, as stated in the I-864 Important Notice instructions.

Then they go about listing documents that I didn't attach because I thought they weren't required at that time.

Is this checklist basically also a *case complete* ?

Yes. Because it's just a clerical error with the form (looks like you forgot to complete a question or two) they have completed your case (congratulations!) and you will just take a corrected form to the embassy interview and they will deal with it there. NVC does this with minor errors - they let you take the correction to the embassy and don't make you send the paperwork to them again and wait another 30+ days.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

As per above reply, yes this is case complete. Just make sure you do have everything they have identified completed fully and correctly and with you for the interview, otherwise it will delay your visa approval. We received the same letter and the request was that we bring the joint sponsors W2 forms to the interview.

Okay, that's great. Do you guys have any estimates as to how long it takes NVC to send the package to the embassy and send out the interview appointment letter? When I check my case number at CEAC visa application status, it shows that my case is still at NVC (not sure how accurate is that). Should I call NVC? It's been almost a month since I received that weird checklist.
