Marines Say Recruit Killed Himself Amid Widespread Culture of Hazing

A Marine recruit died by suicide in March amid a widespread culture of hazing and abuse in his battalion at Parris Island that could lead to punishments for as many as 20 officers and enlisted leaders, the Marine Corps said Thursday.

Some of those 20 commanders and senior enlisted leaders have already been fired, including the three most senior Marines in charge of the recruit's unit. The Marines also ordered that the rest be temporarily relieved, according to a statement sent to the Associated Press. Their punishments could range from administrative punishments, such as counseling, to the most severe action of military charges and a court-martial.

However, that process could take months, and the leaders would not be identified unless they are formally charged.

The findings are the result of three investigations conducted over the past six months by Maj. Gen. James Lukeman from the service's training and education command. They were undertaken after Raheel Siddiqui, 20, of Taylor, Michigan, died after falling nearly 40 feet in a stairwell.

So I read the story. Seems some panty waist crybaby sick call maggot, tried to go to sick call because the poor little human waste of skin had a sore throat. He did not follow procedure and was given a little remedial PT. He lay down on the floor crying about his throat. When he got a little Drill instructor attention the moron jumped off a stairwell.

I will also add the story is BS. Marines don't get fired.

News Flash. Its Marine Boot camp you are supposed to gt hazed and harassed. That is how you separate those who can fight by your side in combat and those who cant.

I swear the direction of this squat to take a pea country and generation scare me

I dropped a 40lb blunt end of a motor tripod into my calf in Infantry school. I had a knot the size of a baseball swollen out of my calf. Guess what. I hopped, limped and drug that leg thru the next 5 days of PT and intense mortar training cause it was expected and I did not want to have to get recycled to training again. The point being that when in combat you don't get to bug out to the rear, because you have a boo boo or the sniffles.

Sick call is for when you are sick, not for when your too too hurts and the horrid man in the Smokey the bear is being mean to you.

Upon a little google research the recruit was a Muslim . OMG it's serious now.

Didn't notice the kid was Muslim, of course you did. Is that why you are so ticked off about this?

1st the military is not for hazing. Hazing always end in a tragic, they should know that for college.

2nd pea while sitting? Really? Tell me that didn't sound sexist. So having to pea while sitting indicates you are whimpy, like women?

3rd a psychiatric evaluation should be mandatory prior to boot camp. This should be mandatory for anyone who needs to go through rigorous physical, emotional activities and will need to carry a weapon. I find it amazing there are no psychiatric evaluations done in the military.

I didn't. I saw a recruit take his life and it's sad. I see soldiers commit suicide in Hawaii too due to my field, so yes, it bothers me.

There are no psych evals in the military, maybe for spies??? Regular military, no
