SSN update after Passport name change needs i94 to be updated. Need help

Hi All,

I am on H1b visa. My name in passport had complete name in First name and last name was blank. When my visa got issued the last name was mandatory so they put FNU in my first name but now in US i have gotten my passport updated where i have split my name in first and last name. Now i want to get my ssn updayed but the SSA officer said that my i94 needs to be updated first with the new name. I tried searching Internet but couldnot figure it out. It will be great help if someone can help me with some advice about how should i get my I94 updated.

You'll need to go to a deferred inspection station in your area, the CBP officers there can do it. My husbands last name was misspelled on his I-94, the officer at our local inspection station (San Antonio Airport) was able to have it fixed within an hour. All we had was my husband (then fiance) passport, since we couldn't pull up his most recent arrival, because the name was mistyped.
