Belgian K1s in the US

Sooooooo I am preparing my move from the UK to the US (getting there!) and so I've been looking at registering with the Belgian consulate in NYC... question if you came on a K1: did you wait until you'd adjusted and got your Green card to register with the consulate/embassy or did you do it right away? It obviously asks about your status/visa type and I just feel like maybe it'd be easier to do it once I got the green card, but that could be months away and actually it's always nice for the motherland to know what's up with my life. You know, were there anything to happen to me, I'd like Belgium to know I was in the US and not the UK!
