Proof of funds and return ticket when travelling to Europe

Hi guys, I've made travel plans to Europe and just noticed on the state department website the following:

Immigration officers may also request you show sufficient funds for your intended stay and a return airline ticket.

For those of you who've traveled there, in your experience is this something passport control typically asks for?

I was in Europe last October. I was not asked for anything but my passport.

Adjustment of Status from H-1B, Family-Based
07/26/2012 - 10/18/2012: 85 Days from Application Received to GC Received.
Removal of Conditions
07/22/2014 - 11/14/2014: 116 Days from Application Received to GC Received.
Naturalization
02/03/2016 - 05/31/2016 : 119 Days from Application Received to Oath Ceremony.

I am a United States citizen!

Hey Kris, I don't think those rules are just for US citizens. Applies to anyone traveling Europe. Same is also true for people traveling to US. CBP agents could also ask visitors similar questions. It won't be any different from your past travels. I think the only difference you will notice is when the CBP agent tells you "welcome home!". Bon voyage!
