I have a question. I havent filed for 2006 yet but I have 2005 and 2004 I was living in england and didnt work so I didnt file. I'm filing IR-1 for my husband who is english. Were at the point of sending in the I-864 but I dont want to hold things up by filing for 2006 and waiting to get 2006 tax transcript. We want to get this done so he can get back home here in the US. What is your opinion on this? I have my W-4's for 2006, I mean couldnt I send those in or something? I would be filing joint because my husband was here last year and worked. Would apreciate your opinion. Thank you

I personally think you should file your taxes, make a copy and send that.

Ive said this is several threads and I really believe 2006 are what is being considered current. Here's my thinking ....

All tax info is required to be sent to the tax payer by Jan 31. So after say mid- Feb, a person should have had ample time to file taxes. Not having filed by now is more of a choice. Plus, considering you lack income for 2004 , as long as 2006 was good , it would be to your benefit to show it.

Anyway , that's just my 2 penny opinion.......

Good Luck

I agree with CutienPurg - you do not need a transcript, just file your taxes and submit a photocopoy of your return.

thank you for the advice, thats what I'll do then. Is there a quick way of getting transcript of 2005? Oh and I read here that they only require 1yr of taxes, so the 2005 and 2006 be ok in your opinion?

If your 2006 taxes are good enough, just send a copy of that, don't bother with more.

And unless you've lost your copy of your 2005 return, you don't need a tax transcript. (If you decide you really want to send 2005, but as I said one year is fine!)

Good luck :)

You do only need one unless you think 2005 will strengthen your case. I'm only sending in 2006 but clearing the poverty guideline amount is not a concern for me so why send in the extra paperwork when they don't need it? They even tell you in the directions that extra years/pay stubs are only for those that need the extra 'boost'.

Nothing I say is legal advice. I recommend you consult a qualified immigration attorney for any questions you may have.

do you mean just make a copy of the taxform itself for 2006, the one u send in to IRS? and then maybe copies of our W-2's? and then get the transcript for 2005?

sorry guys dont mean to ask so much but its like learning a whole new chapter in immigration. Just when you get through one step and you got it down pat you have start all over with a new one to learn. lol stay tuned, I may have more questions before its over. ;)

Yes, just make a photocopy of the return & attachments (i.e. 1040 or 1040EZ or whatever).

As I said before, I would not send 2005, but if you do you still don't have to get a transcript, because you can send a copy of that return as well.
