Any of you lovely ladies know whether colors like 'white', 'diamond white', 'ivory', and 'rum pink' are standardized across brands?

My dilemma is this: my gown (in my photo gallery) is ivory (so it says, it looks white to me) with what the designer calls 'rose' details, but it looks like that popular rum pink color to me. The skirt of the gown is tulle.

I'm trying to match a veil to it, so I'm guessing I want an ivory veil with a rum pink edge... but I'm worried that the rum pink and/or the ivory might clash, and it's so hard to tell, especially with the gown at a shop 500 miles away.

Any suggestions?

I think you're right and the trimming looks rum pink. I had a dress that I ended up returning it and choosing something else, but it was very similar in color to yours. And, they considered the trimming rum pink. Perhaps, you can bring your dress with you when you're shopping for the veil? Or if not, maybe you can make sure that you can return the veil if it doesn't match.

Good luck, oh and btw, your dress is gorgeous :D

Could you get a swatch of the Rum Pink colour? and take it with you when you shop? Or you could find some fabric that matches and take that.

Thanks, everyone, for the compliments and the advice. I'd take a swatch of it, but the the problem is threefold: I'm in Connecticut, the gown is in Pittsburgh at the seamstresses, and the veil is in Oregon (an eBay find.) I think the plan is now to buy it, but have it shipped to my mom's house, and she can run it over to the seamstress to check. If it doesn't work, I can return it.

One more suggestion if you have not alreay purchased the veil from Ebay. Visit http://www.veilshop.com/. I got my veil there and loved it! It wasn't expensive, but still good quality and easy to order. Best of all you can order free swatches, ship them to your Mom and have her match the best one to your dress.

Good luck! Isn't planning a wedding fun!

Ivory is the new white.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I look like hell in white. Too pale to pull of a blinding white gown.

You know, my mother has been driving me crazy, but this is a lot of fun. Much more fun to go to florists where they give you samples of mini roses and delphiniums than it is to explain to some knucklehead at State how you met. No offense to the knuckleheads at State, or to knuckleheads everywhere, but good God they took the fun out of being engaged.
