For a K-1 the only fee you pay is the Application fee. It is paid in CNY, and can be paid online on the ustraveldocs website. They also provide alternative methods to pay the fee, which are also listed on the website. The cost is $265, so the CNY value varies based on conversion ratios.

Hi Chris,

My fiance also recently received the Packet 3. I also remember that the fee is $265 from all the posts and english Embassy Website, but he insist he saw online (also the CN Embassy website, in Chinese) that it says $165. I saw both now, so am very lost.

He will be going to pay at the Citic Bank. Let's say they do ask him for $165 only, but we know it is $265, so at the interview will it be ok to pay the balance?

Also, there was no instructions where to send the packet back, I'd assume it would be the address on the letter. Some how he found on the site that there is drop off service at Citic Bank as well.

I just wanted to ask if it was ok to submit at the Citic Bank since he will be going there to make the payment?

Thanks!

The $165 fee is for people receiving an Immigrant Visa (IR1, CR1, ect..), who have been interviewed and approved, before they arrive to the US. This fee does not apply to K-1 applicants. You only need to focus on the $265 fee, you can pay it at a Citic Bank, or on the www.ustraveldocs.com website.

USCIS Immigrant Fee

If you are immigrating to the United States as a lawful permanent resident, you must pay the $165 USCIS Immigrant Fee online unless you meet one of the exemptions below.

-------------------------------------------

Exemptions

The following groups do not have to pay the USCIS Immigrant Fee:

  • Children who enter the United States under the orphan or Hague adoption programs;
  • Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants;
  • Returning lawful permanent residents (SB-1s); and
  • K nonimmigrants.

Patrick,

In your Packet 4 email, did they assign you an interview appointment?

We had already made an appointment and in the email we got for packet 4 the consulate had assigned an appointment on a different day. I was wondering if you had the same.
