Could a chest cold cause St. Lukes to erroneously require the dreaded sputum test?

The answer is no. The Doctors see thousands of cases, many like yours, and with today's technology and training, a Doctor will be able to judge whether you have TB or just the common cold or in your case residual pneumonia.

Thank you so much. One more thing, I had a latent TB. But I'm already done with the treatment. I had chest xray like 2 weeks ago and it shows my lungs are already cleared, not even a scar because it was just a mild TB, just a spot starting to form.

I am so nervous their facility might find something in my lungs. I don't know. :(

Relax You might need the sputum test but you'll have results in three days and you'll know your outcome. From what you described I think you should be fine. Good luck

Thank you Greenbaum. I just want to clarify what you meant by getting the results in three days?

Is it the sputum test? (Afaik, they culture it for two months)

And for the result of the chest xray, I guess I'll get the result within the day or the next day.

What do you mean by three days? :)

Thank you. :)

Is it the sputum test? (Afaik, they culture it for two months) I was confused. I meant you will have a skin test with results in 3 days. IF you fail the skin test then you will take the sputum test. If you test is positive you have 6 months of DOT to complete. Sputum test IS the culture test, takes 60 days. If positive SLEC does schedule to complete DOT next

And for the result of the chest xray, I guess I'll get the result within the day or the next day. You'll have the results at the end of the first day. If you pass they will ask you to return the next day for your vaccinations.

What do you mean by three days? :)Skin test in three days.

Thank you. :)

Wow, very comprehensive!

Thank you so much!

Oh, so I didn't know about skin test. I thought if they found a spot they will immediately make you have the sputum test.

Thank you!!!!! :)

Hi! Just wanna share my experience.

I scheduled my medical 1 week after I received my MNL number (July 22 and 25) and my interview a week after medical (August 1.)

July 19, I had flu. I cannot get up without feeling dizzy. I was coughing and sneezing badly. I opted not to take medicines. I tried to drink milk, but it made the coughing worse. I tried drinking pure ginger tea. My condition got better, but I still had chesty, dry cough. I thought of rescheduling both medical and interview then I chanced upon this thread.

Anyway, I went ahead with the planned date. I was coughing hard inside SLEC. I thought it was the end of me! Being a bit defensive (and paranoid) I talked to the radiologist and explained my common cough. I immediately had regrets after that when I remembered Greenbaum's message "Do not volunteer information."

So there, I spent the whole weekend worrying and planning and exaggerating things in my head. When I came back this morning, I was instructed to proceed to immunization. XRAY is clear. Thank God :)

I tell people that sometimes we are our worst enemy with all the worrying we do. When you get done with this phase you'll look back and laugh at yourself that you worried way to much for what needed to be done. Especially when you finish your interview. All this for 5 (FIVE) minutes in front of the CO to get an approval. YUP your interview will last about 5 minutes, baring any problems. Most are in and out in 5 min.
